Until now, I showed my experimental alphabets only on Instagram, in the size of a phone screen. But they are much, much nicer in print and at original size.
50 alphabet variations
Alphabets are fun to draw and look at: The skeleton of the letters remains the same, but their appearance can be completely different. And because the basic shapes are so familiar, it’s interesting to play around with how differently letters can look. Is an E still an E if it has five crossbars? Or six or seven? When does it become a comb? These are the questions I explore in this book.
»Alphabets« is published in the artist book series 100for10. The booklet contains 50 alphabets from the sketchbooks I filled from summer 2019 to fall 2020. Admittedly, for 10 euros you do not get excellent print quality. But the black and white drawings are so graphic that they work well anyway.
It was a pleasure to make the selection for the book, add a whole new set of drawings to them, and put the whole thing in an order that highlights connections and contrasts between the alphabets. Those who already have their copy of »Alphabets« say »It’s totally inspiring!«
