Excellent!
Hamburg is a stronghold of illustration and publishing houses. In 2018, protagonists of the scene got together and founded the New Picture Book Association. To promote picture book art, the association awards the Hamburg Picture Book Prize every two years.
The New Picture Book Association needed three logotypes and wanted them to visually relate to each other: One for the association itself, one for the Hamburg Picture Book Prize, which the association awards since 2018, and one for the International Network for Picture Book Studies, which is based at University of Applied Arts, Hamburg.
They didn’t want the lettering to look too artsy, just cool. »Don’t do anything figurative, just because it’s a price for illustration.« they asked.

I wrote the lettering with a sponge brush on long strips of paper and 30 centimeters tall.

Then I photographed them, vectorized them, reworked them, and finally scaled them down to 3 cm.

Even in the small size you the gestural power of the large brush strokes is still visible.
