Connected Script, United Nations

Since spring 2019, I have been part of the pool of around 100 graphic designers that the German Federal Ministry of Finance regularly invites to participate in stamp design competitions.

The first design competition I was invited to was for the stamp commemorating »75 Years of the United Nations«. My designs did not win, but the art advisory board, which judges the entries, awarded the second prize to one of them.

The letters of the term »United Nations« blend into a seamless pattern of stripes reminiscent of national flags. The small symbols on the stripes reinforce the flag association at a second glance. The bright but reduced color palette looks joyful and festive, it is less disharmonious than the gaudy colors of actual national flags.

»United Nations« on a background in United Nation blue. The different letters of the connected script typographically represent the union and diversity of nations.
